Sponsored Walk 2010
Dear
Parents & Members,
On
Sunday 18th April officers of 15th Wigan BB & GA are doing
our main fundraising event of the year with all monies made going to the award
evening 2010. This year we are doing a sponsored walk in the
Lake District and we are giving parents who like a challenge the
opportunity to join us.
We shall
be leaving by coach from Abram School, Simpkin Street at 6.30am. Arriving in
Grasmere around 8am and parking in the coach bay in the village car park.
The walk
we shall be doing is the Silver How 1,292ft and Loughrigg Fell 1,101ft which are
called
' The
Wainwrights ' No 7 and 8 in the Central Fells. On the walk we do a circular of
the lovely Grasmere and Rydal area, taking in some beautiful views from the
surrounding hills and high mountains of the Lake District such as Helvellyn and
Blencathra if the weather is kind!.
The walk
starts with an ascent immediately up Silver How, we may see The Lansdale Valley
and Pikes, we then make our way down the opposite side, following a wide ridge
down to the valley base and take a steep stepped ascent up Loughrigg Fell.
Returning via the Coffin Trail on the East side of the lakes, we should have
visited all 3 of Wordsworth residences, inspiring the poets amongst us no doubt.
We will
stop half way around the walk for refreshments at the Badger Inn, at the top of
Rydal. The total distance is 8.9miles with a total height ascended of 1950 feet.
This will take us around 5 ½ hours.
Please note you must be over 18 years of age and of good fitness to take part in
this event.
If you
are interested in taking part in the walk can you please contact me. We are
putting on a coach and we only have a limited number of places available which
will be allocated on a first come first served basis. We kindly ask that all
walkers get individual sponsorship and must sign a disclaimer against the
company and also make a contribution towards the cost of the coach. The cost of
the coach will depend on the amount of people using the coach.
The
company would like to express its gratitude to Mr Justin Fellows who is a very
experienced walker. Justin will be supporting the company as guide on the walk.
Neither the 15th Wigan Boys’ Brigade & 15th
Wigan Girls Association, Justin Fellows nor Steven Hyde (captain) accept no
liability for any injury, damage or loss resulting from the sponsored walk on
Sunday 18th April 2010.
I remain
yours sincerely
Steven Hyde
